Mice Net : October 2008
cover story a whole new island Hamilton Island has had a facelift. And the result couldn’t be better. “ “It’s like a whole new island!” comments Justine Salame, Business Tourism Manager at Hamilton Island. “Having been with Hamilton Island for 8 years this October, I’ve certainly seen a lot of changes and right now the island is sparkling with a new lease of life. Just goes to show what a bit of TLC from a loving family can do”. And that’s precisely what Hamilton Island is receiving from the Oatley family who have owned the island since 2004. With a newly refurbished four star hotel, qualia raking in accolades since its opening in November 2007 and the new Hamilton Island Yacht Club and 18 hole golf course both set to open in 2009, there is still even more to come. A new function centre was built in August this year to add to the variety already on offer. The Outrigger is an amazing new function venue perched at the end of Catseye Beach. Formerly a restaurant on Hamilton Island, it has been converted into a multi-purpose function venue consisting of three adjacent areas. There is an internal area surrounded on two sides by floor to ceiling windows and doorways, one side opening onto an extensive lawn area and the other to a marquee. It is the ideal venue for group breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The views of Catseye Beach are breathtaking and spectacular from every angle during the day and as the sun goes down the lights of the resort provide the perfect ambience for your evening functions. Internally, banqueting capacity is 100 guests and under the marquee 150 guests, the lawn area seats around 250 guests making the total capacity for a sit down function 500 guests. Cocktail parties for up to 750 guests can be catered for over the three areas. The Oatley family are showing their commitment to the Business Tourism market which has enjoyed a 54% growth over the past four years. “To maintain such strong growth we are constantly seeking to improve and expand on what we have to offer business events – the Hamilton Island Yacht Club function rooms will be gorgeous and have been designed in close liaison with our Operations Team” adds Julie Ford, Business Tourism Manager. “Half of the event possibilities haven’t even been discovered yet, once we walk the site we’re sure there will be some amazing vantages and areas for events” Justine adds “At the risk of sounding clichéd – if you thought you knew Hamilton Island – well “you should see us now!” For more information, contact the Hamilton Island Business Tourism Team on 02 9433 3333 or email@example.com mice.net 15
