pacific island events jetset travel NAME: Jetset Travel World Annual Conference 2008 CLIENT: Jetset Travelworld Group NO. ON ORGANISING TEAM: 12 PAX: 475 BUDGET: WHAT YOU DID: The busy program commenced with a relaxed poolside arrival function sponsored by Sofitel Fiji, offering canapés and cool drinks before spicing things up with a Fijian welcome. The entertainment included local dancers and a spectacular fire twirler performance, roaming Fijian warriors complete with traditional dress and war paint. Highlights included a dramatic Bollywood-themed event, and a gala ‘Under the Sea’ inspired dinner on the final night. SPECIAL TOUCHES: The travel agents enjoyed a complimentary lei welcome and party hosted by the Sofitel themed in Fijian-style. Guest room drops were also arranged each day of the conference, including a welcome pack on arrival with a hat and shirt representing which state the delegate was from. OVERCOMING CHALLENGES: Due to flight changes, instead of arriving at 6pm in time for the official launch of the conference, many Sydney agents arrived at 3am the following day. With half the attendees on this flight, the organisers had to work quickly to arrange new transport for both delegates and staff. Meal and drink requirements also had to be revised for the first two days. While the first arrivals enjoyed a party, those coming later were treated to a special breakfast welcome instead, arranged as part of the contingency plan by the resort and organisers. Air Pacific CEO and managing director John Campbell personally addressed the conference to apologise. Not only do island destinations like Fiji provide delegates with the opportunity to really get down to business without the distractions of big-city destinations, they also provide tailor-made opportunities for creative event parties and memorable launches. Located 20 minutes from Nadi Airport on luxurious Denarau Island, the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa is in many ways a Fijian village in its own right, its friendly atmosphere complemented by an efficient conference team and fantastic facilities. There are a range of restaurants and bars to choose, Mandara Spa for pampering, lagoon style pool and Turtle Club for the kids plus an endless range of cultural and leisure options from skydiving to sailing. Second to none in the conference and incentives department, the resort also offers no less than eight meeting rooms and a grand ballroom for up to 720 delegates as well as creative outdoor solutions to make the most of your island setting. Inspiring a new era of fine Fiji food, the resort most recently won ‘Fiji’s Best Restaurant’ award for its casual beachside eatery, ‘Salt’, and welcomes Fiji’s famous ‘Bula Bus’ to its doors for easy access to the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club and an the exciting new marina precinct for fresh bar and shopping options.
