5-star indulgence Voyages, Kings Canyon Resort – Sounds of firelight qualia luxury at every turn story By brad foster Australians are spoilt for choice when it comes to luxury. The majority of us, if we choose, live in our own homes, drive nice cars, eat good food at comfortable restaurants on weekends, and can purchase high-quality goods at reasonable prices. The term “the lucky country” is what we are, and what the majority of us have come to expect. When we travel for business or pleasure, many of us prefer to stay in the upper end of the accommodation spectrum. We know what we like and we work a little bit harder to get it. It is reasonable to expect, therefore, that when our employer is rewarding us for a job well done, or when we leave our families to attend a conference, our expectation for a few of the good things in life are realised. What employee would be motivated to travel over a weekend for a conference only to be staying in a caravan park? Maybe that would be okay if the kids and partner were along for the ride, but in the world of business it’s just not kosher. Or how about this scenario: you’ve been working long hours for the past 12 months to reach your sales targets and the big prize at the end of the rainbow is a week in a bed and breakfast in regional New South Wales. Unless B&Bs are your idea of heaven the reward simply won’t cut the mustard. Which is where the five-star, indulgent hotels and resorts come into their own. Who wouldn’t feel special staying in the Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast or Hamilton Island’s stunning qualia property? Even if you aren’t a king or queen, the experience is bound to make you feel a little bit special. Over the following pages are some of the best five-star product available today, here and internationally. We were spoilt for choice with the number of properties we could have included, and therefore selected a variety of venues which each offer something a little bit different to the others. We hope that sometime soon someone spoils you with a stay in one or more of these venues. We know you deserve it. You’re an Australian after all. 4 mice.net supplement 2009
