sydney & surrounds SHOWGROund green events OFFERS the nsW Government’s environmentally sustainable development of sydney showground during construction has been taken to a higher level by the rAs. S ydney Showground’s Event Environmental Impact Offset Plan aims to provide the opportunity for clients to hold environmentally friendly events, conferences and exhibitions at the showground. The plan measures the environmental impacts of events, including the greenhouse gas footprint produced from energy usage, transport and waste, as well as emissions from products consumed, labour, etcetera. The plan, available through Sydney Showground’s sales and event planning staff, is in line with the showground’s commitment to the environment and sustainable business practices. The RAS continues its commitment to minimise the environmental impacts from its activities and to continue its journey to environmental sustainability. In 2008 86 per cent of all water used was recycled via the SOP stormwater collection and treatment systems resulting in less demand on the Sydney’s water supply. Ninety-five per cent of waste from the Sydney Royal Easter Show was recycled, reused or turned into green power, and 262 tonnes of greenhouse gasses were offset by planting more than 1000 trees.
