Hunter Valley As mentioned previously, the Hunter Valley remains one of New South Wales’ most popular destinations for weekend getaways, and particularly for mid-week conferences from companies based in Sydney. Like the northern parts of the Central Coast the Hunter Valley is about 90 minutes by road from the Sydney CBD, and is an easy drive once you leave the suburbs behind. Despite covering a 27,000 square kilometre area much of the action as far as wine buffs and meetings are concerned is contained within a much smaller radius 130 mice.net in the heart of the valley. Hunter Valley Wine Country, as it is now marketed, not only offers fine wines, gourmet cuisine, and an abundance of things to see and do, it is also jam-packed with high- quality accommodation and meeting options. At last count there were more than 120 wineries, and close to 3000 accommodation rooms, as well as a range of conference facilities that can now cater for close to 1000 delegates. In-between meetings and wine tastings there are plenty of things to occupy delegates. Golf enthusiasts are particularly spoilt for choice with a number of great courses, and none more so than the Greg Norman-designed 18-hole championship The Vintage. This is the course where serious golfers play. The good news for those who can’t stay off the course for too long is that Grand Mercure Apartments is located adjacent to the championship layout. The Grand Mercure Apartments boasts four- and-a-half star resort style living with wonderful rooms and amenities and conference facilities overlooking the 18th green.
