Mice Net : February 2009
contribution of the industry sector and appropriate remuneration of companies and individuals. this project has been approved by the MEA Board of Directors for support and scoping of the project will commence early in 2009. AustrAlIA-wIDE PrOFEssIONAl DEvElOPMENt MEA’s own registered training Organisation (rtO) status is growing from strength to strength with all possible government funding for rtOs being scoped and applied for. there is currently rPl project funding available from the Federal government for those people who have industry experience but no formal qualifications - these projects can be carried out via distance education or at the workplace - for these rPl projects there is no cost to the applicant or the employer. Members will be able to apply for “recognition of Prior learning” toward their accreditation needs as well as undertake articulated courses that lead to formal qualifications in the business events industry. Professional development is delivered by industry practitioners who have worked in the industry and this is coupled with educational specialists, offering participants the best of both worlds when it comes to education and professional development. For further information or advice please telephone our full-time national training manager at the MEA national office. MENtOrINg PrOgrAM the successful MEA Mentoring Program will continue into 2009. round One of the program nears finalisation and early indications are that both mentors and mentees found the program a very worthwhile initiative. MEA is now looking at launching the program in other states as well as Nsw. ANNuAl NAtIONAl CONFErENCE – ADElAIDE, APrIl 5-7, 2009 the theme for the conference is “A Brilliant Blend”. the theme builds on the state’s main strength - its wine reputation - without limiting its focus to wine. In fact, the brand encapsulates south Australia’s diversity while being modern, creative and inspiring. the program committee will provide a brilliant blend of business sessions, master classes and articulated professional development sessions for the ‘must’ (from the latin mustum – new wine) and ‘vintage’ members of the industry. It is also the intention to provide a blend of business sessions across industry sectors ensuring relevance to each delegate. the social committee has selected venues, entertainment and hospitality that are uniquely south Australian. with a couple of surprises added in along the way, we envisage this will be one of the best ever social programs. registrations are already being received and further information is available at www.meetingsevents.com.au. ExECutIvE CErtIFICAtE IN MEEtINgs MANAgEMENt – rEsIDENtIAl the Executive Certificate in Meetings and Events Management will be upgraded from mid-2009. the program is a major professional development opportunity for meetings and event personnel and sales and marketing personnel working within the meetings, conventions and business events industry. the major benefit of the program is in the experience of the presenters, all of whom are highly respected industry professionals with many years of proven success in their respective fields. within the faculty you will find national award winners, industry leaders, international achievers and more. they are selected not only on their expertise, but also their training and presentation skills. their presentations aim to challenge and stimulate. the program recognises, through topic specification, the two main career paths within the industry, being meetings and event management and sales and marketing. the program is intensive and highly participative, involving individual work, group work and lectures from industry specialists. EssENtIAls IN MEEtINgs MANAgEMENt MEA’s Essentials in Meetings Management program underwent a substantive upgrade in 2008. the upgrade was undertaken by industry practitioners to ensure its relevance to the industry. the program will be re-launched in March 2009 as a stand-alone or group program. Further into 2009 the new program will also be available as an on-line program. COrPOrAtE EDuCAtION In 2009 MEA will continue to focus on corporate education. this means we can come into your organisation and offer small or large- scale training intervention programs, undertake staff training needs analysis, and design training programs for your company. the programs that we deliver can be articulated toward a qualification or purely used for professional development.
