auckland with a team of specialist set builders, lighting designers, and audiovisual specialists to create the stylish environment suitable for various different events to be held over a week. As Rachel Jones, Audi marketing manager said, what resulted was a show worthy of the best of the best – on par with shows Audi has done at the Paris Motorshow and in Germany. Aside from the production requirements Indigo also managed the promotion and sponsorship using the latest Apple Mac technology for display screens plus Bang and Olufsen sound and television screens. With the strategy to position leading fashion designer, Yvonne Bennetti with the Audi brand, Indigo brought together a team of publicists (Sarah Paykel) and stylists to showcase a complete collection especially created for the event at exclusive ladies salon shows as well as an invitation only celebrity fashion evening and launch event. In addition, Indigo incorporated other Audi sponsorships with a lunchtime NZSO concert. Quiet achiever The Auckland Convention Centre at THE EDGE® has always been a bit of a quiet achiever, and now it appears as if current work is going to ensure those meeting inside are quiet achievers as well. The venue has recently undergone double glazing work to soundproof the venue’s meeting space. Auckland Convention Centre’s director, operations, conventions and business event sales, Mohamed Mansour, says that while construction work continues on Aotea Square, he is delighted that the Upper NZI is available for events much earlier than anticipated. “It’s a fantastic solution for now and will be even better once construction is complete as the outlook from the space will be vibrant,” he said. Ellerslie Event Centre The Ellerslie Event Centre has recently reached a fantastic milestone booking its 10,000th event since the launch of the Auckland Cup Week Thoroughbred Racing Carnvial in 2006. To celebrate the venue is offering 50 per cent off venue hire for all new events booked and held before September 30, 2009. Since 2006 the Ellerslie Event Centre has seen a multitude of different events through its gates, from intimate group breakfasts to conferences and expos. More recently Ellerslie Event Centre played host to the inaugural Taste of Auckland event, The New Zealand Beer Festival Auckland Cup Week and Auckland Cup Week, all of which were extremely successful. In fact attendees at Auckland Cup Week 2009 were so impressed with the calibre of the event that Ellerslie received the highest Customer Experience Index Score for any race carnival day ever. “Because of the number of large, high profile events and expos we have here at Ellerslie, people often assume that we don’t cater for the smaller events and overlook our facilities and services. In fact, our most popular function type booked over the past three years has been the simple seminar, followed by meetings,” says Ellerslie Event Centre general manager – sales, Sally Moyes. Located just 10 minutes from Auckland’s CBD and 20 minutes from Auckland International Airport, Ellerslie Event Centre has 26 rooms plus acres of lush grounds for outdoor functions and activities. In addition there is four-star accommodation onsite, free parking and a nine-hole golf course. Visit www.ellerslie.co.nz for further details. mice.net 51
