More than 300 Virtuoso members from around the world were in Sydney for the 2009 Virtuoso Winter Symposium, hosted at the InterContinental Sydney. Themed “Authentic Sydney”, Virtuoso members were treated to an evening that acquainted them with some of the city’s best local experiences and “real Sydney” identities. The sandstone arcades of the hotel’s historic Treasury Building were set up with food stalls representing the Sydney Fish Markets, Harry’s Café de Wheels, Chinatown’s yum cha and East Sydney’s little Italy. Guests could then walk on the grass of the Royal Botanic Gardens, talk with some of the real lifeguards at Bondi Beach and shop at some of Paddington/Woollahra’s best known stores including Neil Grigg, Paspaley Pearls and food purveyor Simon Johnson. The party then kicked off with live performances by Priscilla, members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and leading female recording artist Christine Anu singing with the St Andrews Cathedral Children’s Choir. The concept was devised by staff at the InterContinental and produced by Directions.
