frOM ThE cEO Linda P Gaunt Chief Executive Officer With the successful MEA National Conference 09 behind us, and planning already surfacing for 2010, I take this opportunity to thank each of you who either attended or sent your staff to the conference. I realise that for quite a number of you during these tough financial times that this may not have been as easy financially as in the past, and on behalf of MEA I am most grateful for your support. Having spent the last week debriefing on the conference program, and gearing up for more debrief meetings in the future, I can say with all certainty that MEA 09 did Adelaide and in turn MEA proud. To our hard working committees from Adelaide, a final and most sincere thank you. This year’s conference program ensured an ROI that members of any association expect from their annual conference, and took into consideration member feedback received over a number of years. Past feedback included; a more educational program that concentrated on industry awareness; focussed and articulated professional development, technology sessions, and much more. Many of you will note that on our MEA webpage there is a direct link to many of the conference plenary sessions and the national awards evening, allowing those who could not attend the opportunity to experience the sessions, or those who did attend to re-live the moment. Over the next few weeks concurrent sessions will also be made available. This is also due to technology, the technology of live streaming. Integrated Streaming Pty. Ltd. is an ICT (Internet Communications Technology) company specialising in online presentation delivery. This means a live or pre-recorded video can be streamed over the internet with synchronised presentation slides to reach a global audience. One of the unique aspects to Integrated Streamings’ delivery is the “real-time” capture of the slide presentation as it goes to screen. This enables the presenter to make last minute changes to the slides without affecting the webcast delivery. It also means archives can be created immediately after the event. Imagine being able to hand your conference delegates a CD ROM of the presentations after the event concludes. “In this time of financial concern, companies are realising the cost saving and global access benefits of using our webcasting technology,” says Ves Campion, national sales manager of Integrated Streaming. “Reducing logistical and time costs is a key factor in developing a new sustainable communication strategy. By delivering presentations and events in a customised, company branded pop-up window, our clients increase their online presence while maximising their event ROI.” There are a number of other benefits with presenting via a webcast. People viewing the webcast can download files, saving printing and distribution cost. In an on-demand webcast viewers can jump to specific parts of a presentation via an agenda allowing them instant access to the information they want. Questions can be submitted from the web through our Q&A module, enabling a presenter to interact with the webcast audience. It is with much enthusiasm around this type of technology that MEA welcomes Integrated Streaming on-board. On behalf of MEA I also take this opportunity to thank each of our technology supporters; Integrated Streaming for the live streaming, as well as Twenty Four-7 for the fabulous Musion technology, Staging Connections for their on-going support, the AV technicians at Adelaide Convention Centre, Zoom Photography for videoing our concurrent sessions to be shared with members, and of course our favourite AFMEA Trevor Connell from Eventpix for his wonderful photographic and musical collage of photos that ended the conference.
