isn't she lovely... Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas I n these parts Sheraton Mirage is an icon, simple as that. It is the brainchild of the late Christopher Skase empire, literally starting the local resort strip and transforming Port Douglas from a quiet seaside town to a destination that attracts the likes of Hollywood celebrities and presidents. Renowned for producing spectacular events, the property offers an endless list of possibilities for functions. Want to have a lagoon covered in glass and transformed into a dance floor? You bet! Or maybe you’d like cocktails on the sand? Coming right up! And you’ve got a gala event in mind? You’ve got it! And that’s the positive attitude you’ll encounter dealing with Sheraton Mirage’s staff as well. Director of sales and marketing, Marian McLeod, says no request is out of the question, with the future looking very bright indeed. “We’re working on 2010 already and I’m in discussion with a client at the moment to lock in 5000 room nights for March,” she said. Ms Mcleod said they’ve had positive enquiries from the United States, Japan, United Kingdom, and New Zealand. “The world’s coming to us and for the rest of this year we’re still getting last minute business. Nothing’s too difficult we just do it!” she said. Sheraton Mirage is currently going through a soft refurbishment of some of its external features. The work includes re-painting and re-filling the main lagoon that surrounds the restaurant and accommodation. For more information go to www.starwoodhotels.com.
