Mice Net : August 2009
Q&A a fresh look on the gold coast A: RACV officially took control of the Royal Pines Resort in late September 2008. The Johanna McKinnon caught up with rAVC royal Pines resort GM Greg Magi to talk about the future at this Gold Coast icon. property has been a long standing and integrated part of the local community, tourism and MICE landscapes. And we plan to build on these important relationships in the coming year. After careful review, we have implemented a number of operational and service improvements. This included recently renovating the accommodation rooms and public areas, and upgrades to facilities in the resort, making this a fantastic conference and exhibition destination. Current plans include upgrades to the convention centre, which will improve conferencing options, the refurbishment of the award-winning Level 21 restaurant, RPR’s, the development of an exciting and vibrant pizzeria dining outlet, and the introduction of a new Level 21 executive lounge. Q: What is unique about RACV Royal Pines Resort? A: Definitely the resort’s location – Royal Pines is situated perfectly between the famous beaches of the Gold Coast and the majestic hinterland. The beaches, theme parks and hinterland are within an easy 10-20 minute drive. The resort is an oasis of tranquillity and calm amidst the glitz and glam of the Gold Coast. Royal Pines as a conference and event venue offers the end user a great deal of flexibility and versatility. We don’t say no to any request! The resort is one of Australia’s largest hotel conference venues Q: What is your vision for the property? with 331 accommodation rooms, a ballroom that can host 1800 guests, and eight meeting rooms. The undercover tennis courts can be transformed to a gala dinner venue for 800 guests, and the concert lawns on the resort’s property can be used as a unique outdoor concert venue seating approximately 7000 guests. I’m proud to say that Royal Pines has been voted in the top 100 golf courses in Australia. There is an on-site golf shop with an extensive range of golf apparel and equipment, and Mark Gibson’s Exceptional Golf School is situated at the resort driving range. Mark is twice Australian PGA Teacher of the Year and is able to facilitate private and group lessons or team-building activities. Q: How’s upcoming business looking for events? A: Future business is strong and picking up for this financial year. We are really excited about the variety of events that are coming to RACV Royal Pines. In February 2010 we’ll be hosting the 21st ANZ Australia Ladies Masters Golf Tournament. I’m particularly excited about this because I’m a huge golf fan. BMW will host its 10th Anniversary Ball in April 2010 in our grand ballroom. They are expecting up to 750 guests to attend, and many will stay on at the resort. Other events we’ll see throughout the year are, Hi Lite Golf Pro Am, Australian 4 Ball Championship, the HeliPacific Conference May 2010, and Homemakers Exhibition in September 2009. It’s going to be a really exciting year and we are thrilled for the support. Working spaces with time out places. Couran Cove Island Resort is an idyllic destination like no other.
