Director of Green Roofs Australia, Sidonie Carpenter explains that her organisation applauds buildings like the Federal Parliament House which enjoys significant environmental benefits from having a lawn as a roof. She was impressed by Canberra’s easy access and distance between venues: “a great selling point re carbon footprint and also additional benefits for partner programs”; and Canberra offered an “amazing opportunity to hold functions in some of our iconic buildings”. National president of the Stormwater Industry Association, Steve Frost, appreciated the Canberra Convention Bureau’s focus on a theme rather than a general orientation because “sustainability is an important issue for us… it would rate at least an 8 out of 10”. Despite having visited Canberra “probably 100 times”, Paul Holper, manager of the CSIRO’s Australian Climate Change Science Program said this educational opened his eyes to places he’d never seen. “I can imagine using quite a number [of venues] as outstanding and atmospheric places for networking events associated with future meetings,” he said. “It was also really useful to learn of the various environment-related components that can help to reduce the impact of meetings.” Access Knowledge Innovation + 61 2 6247 7500 www.canberraconvention.com.au 138 mice.net 25 November 2008 Tuesday Events and Appointments 6.00am 7.00am 8.00am 9.00am 10.00am 11.00am 12.00pm 1.00pm 2.00pm 3.00pm 4.00pm 5.00pm 6.00pm 7.00pm 8.00pm 9.00pm Fly into Canberra Press Deliver Media release to Press Gallery at Parliament House Parliament House - Briefing with the Minister’s Advisor Discuss conference theme and the Minister’s involvement Review possible venues for award presentation Old Parliament House National Gallery Australian War Memorial National Museum Australian Institute of Sport Lunch at Australian National University Discuss technical program and academics as key note speakers Departmental Meeting Provide policy update and discuss speakers for day 2 Network Drinks Attend Canberra Convention Bureau networking function Fly out of Canberra done...byfriday HJD01
