Mice Net : June 2009
case study WHAT YOU DID: We had already decided to do an outdoor function around the pool with live cooking stations. Being a huge fan of the Iron Chef TV series, it occurred to me that this was a great opportunity to theme the evening as a theatrical event and have each cooking station competing for the title of ‘Iron Chef Noosa’. I explained the idea to executive chef Scott and he was enthusiastic and said his staff would be thrilled to participate. Nathan Sorenson from Staging Connections helped with the logistics, and then we decided to offer a prize of an engraved chef’s knife to the winning chef. We gave each guest a voting form and they ticked the cooking station they liked the best. It was a huge success and the chefs got into the swing of things by dressing up and theming their stations. We had so many compliments about what a fantastic evening it was from all the delegates and I certainly couldn’t have executed such a unique event without the enthusiasm and help from all the staff. SPECIAL TOUCHES: In preliminary discussions with the client and our executive chef it was decided an engraved knife wo presented to the reigning chef, voted by the conference dele over the course of the evening. Six chefs were invited to par by way of dressing and theming their stations in their ‘adopt country/style. When the stations were revealed it was clearl that this was to be a very serious competition, with each ch beyond the expectations of both organiser and attendees. CHALLENGES: Unfortunately, mother nature was not o side as Noosa had experienced torrential rain, rain that ha been seen in years…Our planned event poolside needed moved to an area that still evoked a sense of being ‘outside’ the conference room. The Lilly Pond was transformed from outdoor undercover venue to a stage fit for an Iron Chef!
