Mice Net : June 2009
sydney & surrounds true blue The 2009 Sydney Royal Easter Show had one of the event industry’s own hard at work in the shape of Jeremy Garling and his team from Great Southern E-vents, who wrote, directed and co-produced the nightly entertainment production True Blue held in the main arena. Sixty-four head of cattle, 50 sheep, 30 brumbies, four dogs, four horses, 40 stockmen, a cast of 25, and John Williamson and Shannon Noel, this event drew upon Jeremy’s theatrical roots (he is NIDA trained so theatre is his first love and medium), and the wonderful Kay Reaney who is a senior event producer at GSE – who created the idea. As chief executive of the RAS, Peter King, explains, John Williamson’s iconic True Blue ballad was perfect for the arena spectacular focusing on mateship. “It is a story of courage, mateship and adventure, told through the travels of an Australian stumpy tail cattle dog called Bluey. “Since 1822 the RAS, and in particular the show, has been a slice of country life in the heart of the city. As times change and demographics shift, we know that fewer Sydneysiders have a strong connection to rural and regional communities. As such, we embrace our increasingly important position as the primary source of agricultural education for many Sydney families.” Jeremy Garling and his team have been invited to add some more creative flair to next year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
