Mice Net : June 2009
issue no. 59 June 2009 MEA NATIONAL cONfErENcE wrAp up Wow. Eleven months of planning and in the end the conference came and went very quickly. Delegate feedback both at the conference and since has indicated that Adelaide did provide a ”brilliant blend” of educational sessions and social activities. The business environment has changed so much since the last MEA conference. It was pleasing to see that our industry still considers training and networking important and this was confirmed by the 500+ people who participated in the conference. So congratulations to you all on making the commitment and effort to come to Adelaide. The conference is only as good as the people driving it. To Leanne Bennett and the program committee, congratulations on putting on a sensational educational program. The IML feedback indicates that it was arguably the best ever educational program delivered at a MEA conference. To the local host committee, thanks for the outstanding social program including the events at Penfolds Magill Estate, The Adelaide Town Hall, The Adelaide Event and Exhibition Centre, the gala dinner at The Adelaide Convention Centre and the Club MEAs. To our wise counsel Alec Gilbert and Meri Took, thank you for your advice and support. Finally, a thank you to the team at MEA headed by Linda Gaunt and to our national events manager Anna Tartakovskaia. An event for our industry cannot be easy but congratulations must be given on delivering a great conference. To the conference major sponsors, a very big thank you. I encourage everyone in the industry to support these wonderful sponsors: • The Adelaide Convention Centre – what a brilliant promotion for the ACC which went all out to show the industry what it can do. The venue, the staff and the food during the conference was great. The gala dinner they put on was just outstanding. Congratulations and thank you. • IML – the interactive handsets gives MEA some great feedback on all aspects of the conference and is one of the tools used for continuous improvement for future conferences. • Staging Connections – great supporter of MEA for many years and provided valuable support and AV for our offsite events. • Twentyfour-7 Event Solutions – The conference was the first time I had seen the Musion hologram technology, it was amazing. To our numerous other conference sponsors, thanks for your support as well. As I mentioned at the conference, being conference chair was a great experience, being much more involved in a conference than I normally would in my day to day role at Adelaide Expo Hire. It enabled me to see another side of our fantastic industry for which I now have an even greater respect. Thanks again for all your support and I look forward to seeing you all at the next MEA Conference in Melbourne.
